Open an app from an unidentified developer on Mac
Updated 31 October 2026
To open Magnetite on a Mac that blocks it, click Done on the warning, then open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. You do this once. Magnetite is not notarized by Apple, which is why macOS stops the first launch. It needs macOS 26 on Apple silicon. Download Magnetite v0.1.15, a 783 KB ZIP.
The steps
- Open the ZIP, drag Magnetite to Applications, and double-click it.
- macOS says “Magnetite.app” was blocked to protect your Mac. Click Done.
- Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and click Open Anyway next to “Magnetite.app”.
- Play something, hover the notch, and allow the two prompts: Automation, and Screen & System Audio Recording.
Why macOS stops it
Magnetite is ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple, so macOS can’t verify it. The source is on GitHub under the MIT license, and every release has a SHA-256 checksum. Compare the ZIP’s checksum with the .sha256 file on the releases page before you open it.
Other apps
The same Privacy & Security button appears for other apps that macOS blocks this way. If Open Anyway isn’t there, try opening the app once more and check again.
